Sketches 11.03.10
Haven't drawn in a while. I think it's about time I started sketching at least five sketches a day to help with pose and anatomy. Tomorrow I plan to use my morning to sketch at least five technical sketches. I do want to learn how to draw my favorite subjects - Planes and Helicopters. most are drawn from references.
Scenes
I've been managing to keep myself busy with some other projects while I'm going crazy. All the scenes are random from the top of my head and usually inspired by a picture or word. I do not have any stories to them...yet.
It is my hope that I will one day be able to create some sort of story out of these images.
But for now I must deal with my current pest control problem.

Villain Portraits: Raz
Finally got her done. I had shown a sketch to a friend who absolutely loved it so I went ahead with the painting. Unforunately according to friend, the eyes changed and were just sinister instead of the "peering into your soul" stare. I tried and tried with all my might to recreate the stare from the sketch, but since I painted on the sketch layer I had no way to recreate it : (
Raz from Wolves of Fortune. Yes she's bald.
Villain portraits: Robyn Hughes
Backin' up
I learned something today, something I should have learned a REALLY long time ago (actually I did I just never really paid attention to it).
Currently, I am working on a small project composed of two portraits of my two main villans, Robyn and Raz. This project, "Evil Pickle Villans" mainly is for grins, nothing really serious. I started Robyn last night before I trotted off to work, leaving the portrait in the basic base form. This morning I went to work on it, really motivated to actually get back into digitally painting again only I kept "screwing up". Her face wasn't working right, the proportions were all over the place, and her skin was just blech! So after repainting for the fifth time I ended up with this.I absolutely hated this picture out of frustration and anger. It wasn't doing what I wanted.
So I stepped back for some time, crocheting a blanket for a friend then working on a scarf pattern for myself before I came back to try it again.
You know, sometimes you just have to stand back and do something else.
Much happier. My only regret is she looks like Natalie Portman in a way. Grrr...
Moral of the day is just cuz it looks like crap in the beginning doesn't mean it's gonna still be crap later on if you put some effort into it.

Theme Sketches: Rap
A friend and I came up with an idea to draw our characters in certain themes. I'm actually really excited about this project as this will give me reason to sketch at least three people per day (aiming for five a day) and keep me drawing and possibly getting better again. For this project I'll be using my Wolves of Fortune characters. Kenra, Zach, and Mel are the rappers in this one. Next should be Goth, which I'm REALLY looking forward to.
Wolves of Fortune "Poster"
While I have "The Messengers of Bordertown" story idea as well, I have "Wolves of Fortune" completely inspired off of Far Cry 2 (if you couldn't tell). I got bored several months back and decided to make a poster. This is what came out.
One thing I've noticed is I need a lot of work with legs and lighting. I also need lots of help with backgrounds. I can attempt simple ones like this but that house just doesn't look like it belongs.
Oh wells. I'm tired. Work's got me exhausted.
New Desktop WIP
I have far more important projects I should work on, but with the stress going on in my life at the moment and all the shit hitting the fan this weekend (and possibly next weekend as well) I've sorta just given up the daily sketch thing and just resorted to drawing fictional men that make me happy.
Figured it was also time for a new desktop
W.I.P. Of a little get well present to myself, of Soap and Price smokin' cigars and topless. Yes, I want them topless. I need some sexy pictures too.

Computer problems
I strongly advise you guys NOT to download anything while you have the AV security Suite virus scam on your computer. It's just another rogue program full of trojans, but I ended up getting into some deep deep DEEP shizzits. I had the... something 2010 virus scam a while back (forgot the name of it rwar), so I didn't react to this one and just went around the net to search for a way to get rid of it.
Well I finally got rid of the damn program and the viruses with it, but for some odd reason I couldn't start my yahoo messenger program. Apparently I was missing a srpnin.dll file that seemed to be associated with the messenger program. So I tried to uninstall Yahoo, and redownload the program thinking I'll just reinstall it. Well, apparently yahoo couldn't download the files necessary for reinstalling, so I'm thinkin' "Well fuck...".
I'm currently restoring my system to an earlier date and if this does not solve my issues then it's to reformatting the old thing. Good thing I backed up all my files.
So that's my excuse for not drawing. Time for some Red Dead Redemption!

Life is nothing but learning
Here's the amazing thing about growing as an artist. How much you can learn from a single drawing when you take the time to listen to the critiques and come to a realization of what simple touch ups can do.
For example, when I drew the portrait of Jack Roth, I only had a vague idea of what I wanted (and yes that idea was pretty much John Martson from Red Dead Redemption), but I still wasn't sure what he'd look like. He was going to be scarred and unattractive, that much I knew. When I posted the picture a few days ago I thought to myself "I want to make him look older", "I want to make him look more haggard", and "I want him to really look villainous". My problem was that I wasn't sure how to do it or I was too afraid to add more lines because I didn't want to mess it up.
After listening to my friend's suggestions, I decided to man up and add more lines to his eyes and brow. I even added more gray to his shaggy hair. And in the end, I think I have never been happier with how a character turned out. I will always continue to try and "push" his design, as well as the rest of my creations. It only takes that boost of bravery to try something new.

Joining the bandwagon
I caved and got a silly blog.
At least my friend has the excuse of "my teacher made me do it".
Gosh darn it.
